In a global patient survey, approximately 4 out of 10 patients who took an oral migraine preventive, including standard-of-care treatments, discontinued due to side effects or lack of efficacy^7,8a

Preventive medication use and reasons for discontinuation were collected in an international Web-based, cross-sectional survey of adults with migraine during 2010. Among respondents who reported prior use of oral preventive medications, satisfactory resolution, lack of efficacy, side effects, cost, or other could be selected as the reason for discontinuation.

Surveys were completed by 98.5% (n=1165) of eligible responders. Surveyed eligible responders were classified as episodic migraine (n=672, 57.7%) or chronic migraine (n=493, 42.3%).

Comparable real-world data do not exist for Emgality.

Hypersensitivity reactions, including dyspnea, urticaria, and rash, have occurred with Emgality in clinical studies and the postmarketing setting. Cases of anaphylaxis and angioedema have also been reported in the postmarketing setting. If a serious or severe hypersensitivity reaction occurs, discontinue administration of Emgality and initiate appropriate therapy. Hypersensitivity reactions can occur days after administration and may be prolonged.

Emgality is contraindicated in patients with serious hypersensitivity to galcanezumab-gnlm or to any of the excipients.
